PURPOSE: A broadcasting channel equalizer is provided to simultaneously equalize a terrestrial broadcasting and cable broadcasting. CONSTITUTION: A broadcasting channel equalizer includes an FIR filter(11) for filtering near ghost contained in a transmitted signal, an IIR filter(12) for filtering far ghost contained in a sliced signal, an adder(13) for adding up the signal filtered by the FIR filter and the signal filtered by the IIR filter, and a slicer(14) for receiving the signal output from the adder, comparing the received signal with a transmission level, mapping the compared value to the transmission level and outputting the value to the IIR filter. The equalizer further includes an error calculator(15) for comparing the output of the adder with the output of the slicer to calculate an error value of the output signal of the adder, a factor updating unit(16) for updating a new factor to transmit it to the IIR filter and FIR filter using the error value, an initializer(17) for converting the factor updating unit to a terrestrial broadcasting mode or a cable broadcasting mode when power is on or channel equalization is started again, and a mode controller(18) for inputting a mode select signal to the initializer and factor updating unit to control the terrestrial broadcasting mode and cable broadcasting mode.
