VEHICLE SEAT WITH COLLAPSIBLE BACK

PURPOSE: A vehicle seat with a back folded down is provided to reduce the manufacturing cost by using separable parts and to facilitate controlling by transferring a cam and a control member with one parts of the seat. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle seat comprises a back and a seat part. The back has at least a top portion mounted on a supporting strength member(11) to pivot about a transverse horizontal pivot axis(X2). The supporting strength member is connected to the seat proper. The top portion of the back is connected to the supporting strength member by a locking mechanism(13) adapted to connect the top portion of the back to the supporting strength member at least in a raised, normal-use position. The locking mechanism is actuated by a control member accessible to a user to release the top portion of the back to pivot about the pivot axis, at least in order to pivot forwards from the raised position to a folded-down position. The locking mechanism comprises a locking cam pivotally mounted on a first seat element selected from the supporting strength member and the top portion of the back. The locking cam is urged resiliently towards a locking position and is movable towards a retracted position by actuating the control member.
