PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, that is screw-fastened and is fixed with a shielding cover 40 to a support plate 31 for supporting an imaging device 33 or the like and simply and efficiently reduces stiffness of the shield cover 40, so as to prevent occurrence of transformation distortion of the shield cover 40 caused by the screw fastening and fixing and by extension occurrence of transformation distortion of the support plate 31. SOLUTION: Slit shaped openings 60-62 are provided to folded fixing sections 46-49 of the shielding cover 40 and one or both of ridges R1, R2 of a shielding cover body. The slit-shaped openings 60-62 are provided in a state of traversing a folded line (OL) of the folded fixing sections 46-49 and a ridge line(RL) of the ridges R1, R2.
