PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation control device for a compressor and a control method therefor allowing effectively linearizing nonlinearity of compressor characteristics based on a current and voltage supplied to a linear compressor for precisely and accurately controlling operation of the compressor. SOLUTION: This control device is formed by comprising a displacement computing unit 36 for computing a displacement by using a current and voltage supplied to the linear compressor 38, a detecting part for detecting a vector size and a phase signal on the basis of the maximum current vector and the maximum displacement vector on a vector locus corresponding to the current and the displacement, an inflection point detecting part for detecting a vector size inflection point on the basis of the above vector size and a previously detected vector size and for detecting a phase inflection point on the basis of the above phase signal and a previously detected phase signal, and a duty ratio determining part 29 for comparing the above vector size inflection point with the phase inflection point and generating a switching control signal corresponding to the comparing result to control operation of the compressor.
