PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material having sufficiently high catalytic activity and enabling reduction of catalytic reaction time and the amount of a catalyst used and to provide a method for producing the porous material and a catalyst using the porous material. SOLUTION: The porous material comprises a compound having a basic framework in which zirconium and phosphorus atoms bond to each other by way of an oxygen atom and not having a crosslinked structure of an organic group and has pores having 0.3-2 nm median pore diameter.
