The filter is regenerated by injecting and burning hydrogen in the exhaust system (4) ahead of the filter (5), ensuring combustion of particles trapped by the filter. The hydrogen is obtained from the fuel cell (7) used to provide electrical power for the vehicle, or alternatively from a hydrogen reservoir (2).
