PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high specific surface area of a hydrogen permeable membrane while optimizing the transport of materials and heat between a gaseous phase and a membrane for treating a reformate gas for a fuel cell. SOLUTION: In an apparatus 10 for the separation of hydrogen from a gas mixture comprising hydrogen and at least one further gas, hollow structures 18 having a wall consisting of a membrane permeable for hydrogen are disposed in a diffusion chamber 16, the mixture is led into and through the diffusion chamber 16, the hydrogen which diffuses into the hollow structures 18 through the membrane can be led out of the hollow structures 18, and the gas mixture depleted with respect to its hydrogen content can be led out of the diffusion chamber 16. The hollow structures 18 comprise crossed tubes 18 which open at least at their one end into a collection chamber 24 for leading away the hydrogen. Through the arrangement of the hollow structures, turbulence arises in the diffusion chamber 16 and the efficiency of the separation process can be improved. |
