PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin and a composition for powder coating materials having enough strength in practical application, excellent in weather resistance and adhesive properties to a coated matter, and a powder coating material using the composition. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for powder coating material comprising an acid component comprising terephthalic acid as a main constituent and an alcohol component comprising neopentylglycol as a main constituent, includes 1-7 mol.% of a copolymer of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid in the acid component and exhibits 0.10-0.30 dl/g of intrinsic viscosity and 15-50 mgKOH/g of acid value.
