PURPOSE: A video transmission and processing system for generating a user's mosaic is provided to select the specific TV program quickly from mosaic of TV program displayed on a television set by transmitting and receiving video signals related to TV program. CONSTITUTION: A video transmission system(501) transmits an output video signal over a communication channel on the basis of a group of input video signals. The system comprises a first group of coding units for supplying a coded video signal from each input video signal; a second group of coding units for supplying a sub-sampled video signal from each input video signal; an association unit for associating sub-sampled video signals(505,506,507) with a descriptor characterizing the corresponding input video signal; and a multiplexing unit for multiplexing the group of the coded video signals with the group of the sub-sampled video signals associated with descriptors. The multiplexing operation supplies the output video signal. The transmission and processing system for video signals relating to TV programs for the purpose of constructing a mosaic of TV programs displayed on a user's television set selects a particular TV program quickly through a menu.
