PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording and reproducing device capable of preventing a floating type slider from colliding with a recoding medium when a battery is consumed. SOLUTION: The optical recording and reproducing device comprises mainly a floating type slider 1, a power source voltage detector 4, and a floating judging circuit 5. The power source voltage detector 4 detects the voltage supplied from a battery 100 at any time. When the battery 100 is consumed and the power source voltage drops lower than a preset value, the floating deciding circuit 5 decides that the floating type slider 1 should not be floated up, and sends a floating halt signal to a slider support control part 3. The slider support control part 3 moves the slider supporting part 2 to go away from the recording medium 10, and also makes the floating type slider 1 refuge to a specified position.
