PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a clip from being released from a pinion shaft by enlargement of the clip due to a centrifugal force. SOLUTION: This starter is so formed that the clip 14 for pullout prevention of a pinion 13 is provided in the tip of the pinion shaft 11 fitted to the pinion 13, the pinion 13 and the pinion shaft 11 are integrally moved in the pinion shaft direction, and the pinion 13 and a ring gear are geared with each other. This starter is provided with a cup-shaped holder 15 having such a shape as covering the outer circumferential part of the clip 14 and having a hole 17 bored in its center, a screw hole 16 provided in the tip surface of the pinion shaft 11, and a bolt 18 fixing the cup-shaped holder 15 in the screw hole 16 provided in the tip surface of the pinion shaft 11 via a hole 17 bored in the cup-shaped holder 15.
