User hand actions such as pressure at or near a door handle (2) are detected electronically (1) and converted to a sequence by a processor (3). The sequence is compared to sequences stored in a memory (4) and if identified a control unit (8) initiates operation of a corresponding actuator such as raising or lowering windows. The control unit may be preceded by an inhibition unit (6) receiving actuator state signals (7).
