PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent method for preventing the polymerization of anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and its ester. SOLUTION: This method for preventing the polymerization of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and its ester is characterized by allowing an N-oxyl compound represented by general formula (1) (R1 is CH2, CHOH, C=O, CHOCOCH3, CHNHCOCH3 or CHOCH3) and a hydroxylamine compound represented by general formula (2) (R2 is CH2, CHOH, C=O, CHOCOCH3, CHNHCOCH3 or CHOCH3) to coexist in theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester.
