PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a brass having high ductility to external force with a high speed and to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the brass includes a step for producing a brass casting under such conditions that (1) apparent Zn content in a raw material composition is 37 to 46 mass %, (2) the solidifying temperature at the time of casting is 5×101 to 105 K/s, and (3) the cooling rate after solidifying is 5 K/s up to a temperature of <=400 deg.C, a step for heating the brass casting to the recrystallization temperature and a step for subjecting the brass casting to hot extrusion at 480 to 650 deg.C to obtain a brass extruded product. Thereby, such a crystal structure that, when the brass is exposed to external force and deforms, strains of a metal crystal occur in a dispersed state, and when the brass receives the external force with a high speed, the strain energy formed by the dispersion causes recrystallization and suppresses dislocation is formed. Accordingly, the brass having high ductility to the external force with the high speed can be obtained.
