Solidifying a liquid radioactive alkaline residue based on sodium hydroxide produced by the conversion of metallic sodium used in a fast breeder nuclear reactor comprises adding granulated blast furnace slag at a rate of 1:1-1.5 by weight and solidifying the mixture. The process is carried out in an apparatus comprising a reservoir (1) for the liquid radioactive alkaline residue, a storage hopper (2) for the granulated slag, dosers (3, 4) for the liquid residue and slag, a mixer (5) and a barrel (6) to receive the mixture.
