PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical detector which can surely and properly adjust variances in the light emission output of a light-emitting element and the detection sensitivity of a light-receiving element for every product and correct characteristic variations and so on, even when it is being used. SOLUTION: In a storage part 12, the ratio of the value of the supply current to an LED, when a PTr detects measurement light in the absence of a paper sheet and the value of the supply current to the LED, when the PTr detects the measurement light in the absence of a paper sheet, are previously stored, a correction part 23 corrects the ratio previously stored in the storage part according to ambient temperatures of the LED and PTr. A supply current value detecting part 25 detects the supply current to the LED, when the PTr detects the measurement light by outputting the measurement light from the LED with specific timing wherein an object to be inspected is absent. A supply current value determining part 27 determines the value of the supply current to the LED, according to the supply current value detected by the supply current value detection part 25 and the ratio corrected by the correction part 23 and a supply current value control part 29 performs control, so that the value of the supply current to the LED will be the supply current value determined by the supply current value determining part 27. |
