PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a method for producing amorphous paroxetine hydrochloride useful as a medicine by an industrially advantageous method. SOLUTION: Paroxetine hydrochloride containing isopropyl alcohol is reacted with a base to afford paroxetine, which is then reacted with acetic acid to provide paroxetine acetate and the resultant paroxetine acetate is reacted with hydrogen chloride in ethanol to afford an ethanol solution of paroxetine hydrochloride not substantially containing isopropyl alcohol and the ethanol solution is subjected to spray drying to provide the objective amorphous paroxetine hydrochloride.
