PURPOSE: A connector position assurance device for a sealed connector is provided to completely assemble and disassemble a header from a plug housing. CONSTITUTION: A sealed electric connector assembly(10) includes a CPA(connector position assurance device)(82) including at least one CPA support rail and a CPA latch finger. A plug housing(12) is provided with a body section having a mating interface(30) on one end retaining plural plug contacts, composed of a shroud extending about at least a portion of the body section, and spaced apart from the body section by the predefined gap. A header(18) has a base retaining plural header contact portions electrically engaged with the plug contacts, and includes walls defining a plug receptacle adapted for receiving the mating interface. The walls are received in the gap between the shroud and the body section of the plug housing. A seal(34) is mounted to the plug housing or the header to form a hermetic seal between the plug housing and the header when fully mated with one another. A CPA retention assembly is mounted to the plug housing or the header. The CPA is mounted to the CPA retention assembly and moved between the retracted position and the locked position. The CPA permits engagement and disengagement of the header and the plug housing in the retracted position and prevents engagement and disengagement of the assembly in the locked position.
