PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an N-(mercaptoacyl)amino acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing an N-(mercaptoacyl)amino acid comprises a Michael addition process (B) of a thio acid RS4H to an acrylamide derivative [wherein R1 expresses a phenyl or 3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl; R2 expresses H or a lower alkyl; R3 expresses H, a lower alkyl or a lower phenylalkylene; R4 expresses an acetyl CH3-CO-, benzoyl C6H5-CO- or pivaloyl (CH3)3-CO-], further, this invention relates to an enantio-selective synthetic method of a compound of formula (I) wherein R2 expresses a substituent except H, especially a (S, S) type compound described below.
