PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an effective structural member having an excellent function as a brace with an excellent buckling strength and a damper having an excellent damping function. SOLUTION: The brace damper comprises a brace main body 1 with both the ends fixed to a building, and a pair of restricting member with a form of cramping the brace main body from both the sides which is mounted to the surrounding and prevents the buckling while permitting deformation in axial direction. The brace main body comprises a band plate-shaped steel plate having a yield portion 1a at a predetermined position which yields when a predetermined axial force is applied. A constraint member has a reinforcing member preventing its own deformation in out-of-plane direction at least at a position inserting the yield portion. A channel steel member 2 is employed as the constraint member, and as a reinforcing member, a reinforcing rib 10 is used which is welded between its flange portion and web portion. As a brace main body, dead soft steel or the like is adopted, and a yield portion is formed by wringing its cross section area smaller at the center portion in the length direction than that located at both the end portions.
