PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly pure 4,4"-dihydroxy-p- terphenyl compound, especially having one to three substituents on one terminal 4-hydroxyphenyl group of the molecule, in a high yield by a reaction using industrially easily available raw materials and under industrially easily performable reaction conditions. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4,4"-dihydroxy-p-terphenyl compound represented by general formula (II) [R groups are each a 1 to 12C alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkoxy, a 5 to 5C cycloalkyl, cycloalkoxy or halocycloalkoxy, phenyl or hydroxy; (n) is an integer of 0 to 3] comprises thermally decomposing a hydroxyphenyl-substituted cyclohexylidenebisphenol compound represented by general formula (I) and then subjecting the obtained reaction mixture to a dehydrogenation reaction.
