FIR FILTER FOR PRML HARD DISK DRIVER

PURPOSE: An FIR(Finite Impulse Response) filter for a PRML(Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) hard disk driver is provided to decrease an area and an electric power consumption by supplying the optimum structure and circuit in a digital FIR filter included in a PRML reading channel adaptive equalizer. CONSTITUTION: In a hard disk drive FIR filter having a parallel processing method and a pipeline structure, an input delay terminal(21) comprises 8 registers for constituting 8-tap and delays input data. A partial product generator outputs data delayed in the input delay terminal(21) to a partial product 3 rows of a 6 bit x 6 bit, comprises 8 taps, and outputs a partial product of 24-row. The first pipeline terminal(A) passes the output 24-row partial product. A 3:2 compressor(22) outputs the passed 24-row partial product into a 16-row. A 4:2 compressor(23) outputs the output 16-row into an 8-row. The second pipeline terminal(B) passes the output 8-row result. Two 4:2 compressors(24,25) output the passed 8-row into 2-row. The third pipeline terminal(C) passes the passed 2-row result. A carry transmission adder(26) adds the passed 2-row to 1-row corresponded to the final output. The fourth pipeline terminal(D) passes the final result of the 1-row.
