The invention relates to a method for producing high-purity diisobutene by reacting isobutene or isobutene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures on a solid acid ion exchange resin containing sulfonic acid groups, the protons of said groups being partially exchanged against metal ions. The invention also relates to the use of said diisobutene.
