Separation device comprises a roller (11) formed from a number of parallel rings (17) spaced from each other; a unit for sucking air from the inside of the roller; and units which extend between two neighboring rings of the roller. The roller and/or the units between neighboring rings can be moved relative to each other so that materials to be sucked from the surface of the roller are moved by the units in a region of reduced air suction. Preferred Features: The roller can be rotated. The units between the rings are formed as fingers (22) which are fixed to a common support but are able to move in the longitudinal direction. The unit for sucking air from inside of the roller is formed as a tube which extends inside of the roller. The tube has a slit having increasing width.
