The method involves bringing a sensor device (10) in mechanical contact with at least one surface (12) to be tested. The sensor device is essentially flat and is moved in mechanical contact with and relative to the surface(s) to be tested. The sensor device is inserted into the gap (14) between two surfaces, whereby at least one of the surfaces is a surface to be tested.
