The valve has a valve element (16) with a liquid flow region (32) with inlet and outlet regions (38,40) and a liquid delivery channel arrangement (28) in a valve body (12). The inlet region can be placed to overlap with the delivery channel to pass liquid between the channel and the liquid flow region, whereby the degree of overlap can be varied depending on at least one parameter representing the state of the liquid to be transferred.
