PURPOSE: A position control apparatus of an electric power steering system is provided to control the position by controlling the critical point of a servo motor driving the steering system, and to prevent overload of the servo motor with installing a steering limit unit and a servo motor control switch. CONSTITUTION: A pinion is turned by a worm of a servo motor(1) in turning a steering wheel. A rack is installed in a steering shaft(4), and operated by the pinion to change the direction of a vehicle. A limit protrusion part(6) is installed in the critical point of the steering shaft. A control switch(7) is installed in a housing of the servo motor, and contacted to the limit protrusion part. A relay(8) is installed between the control switch and the servo motor. Overload of the servo motor is prevented by controlling the position of the critical point of the servo motor.
