A gripper feeder for metal stip comprising on a base: at least two grippers (10, 10') for engaging a metal strip (29) to be advanced, members for moving said grippers in a direction parallel to the axis of said strip, means for independently operating said grippers, a control centre for controlling said gripper mover members, characterised in that said mover members consist of at least two motors (4, 4'; 30, 30'), the operation of which is controlled in such a manner that when the gripper which retains the strip moves in one direction, the other gripper is deactivated and moves initially with greater speed in the opposite direction, then reverses its travel direction and reaches the speed of the first gripper, said first gripper slackening its grip when the second gripper intervenes to grip the strip. |
