PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to decrease the temperature of water drained from a heating tub after clothing boiling, thereby preventing any safety accidents. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine includes a heating tub(34) for receiving clothing and washing water, a water supply part(46) for supplying water into the heating tub, a heater(38) for heating the water in the heating tub, a drain part(52) for draining the water out of the heating tub, and a control part for supplying cold water to lower the temperature of the water after the clothing boiling is finished.
