The present invention relates to a radioactive or activatable seed comprising a closed and self-supported casing consisting of (a) a metallic material selected from metallic palladium, a palladium alloy and a Pd-compound/metal composite or mixtures thereof, optionally in combination with (b) a metallic material not comprising Pd; wherein the palladium in (a) comprises Pd-103 and/or an activatable precursor thereof, and is selected from the group consisting of palladium enriched in Pd-102 higher than natural abundance, palladium depleted of isotopes giving rise to undesirable radiation emitting isotopes during the activation treatment, and mixtures thereof, as well as a method for producing the same. <IMAGE>
