PURPOSE: To provide a vacuum cleaner of simple structure and low cost, capable of positively stopping a rotating brush when power transmission to the rotating brush is cut off. CONSTITUTION: This vacuum cleaner is provided with a cleaner body a suction implement body connected to the lower part of the cleaner body and having a suction port opened to the lower face a rotating brush rotatably disposed in the suction port a drive source a power transmission system for transmitting power from the drive source to the rotating brush and an intermittent mechanism for changing the intermittence of power transmission of the power transmission system. The vacuum cleaner further has a brake arm for stopping the rotating brush by coming in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the rotating brush in response to the intermittent mechanism cutting off the power transmission of the power transmission system.
