PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leaf filter having following characteristics in that (1) it is hard to cause unbalance of the overflow from a filtering leaf, even if there is roughness, and the like, of the perpendicularity of a rotation shaft and an outer fringe of a filter leaf, (2) a stock solution that overflows is made to stably flow to a lower filter leaf subsequently, thereby maintaining a wide range of flow rate and a stabilized filtering capacity even, when the circulation flow rate by a residue treatment is large, (3) it is hard to cause collapse of a cake layer formed on the surface of the filter leaf and (4) it is capable of filtrating by forming the first cake layer on the surface of the filter leaf even, when the amount of the stock solution is initially small, and to provide a method for treating the residue. SOLUTION: The leaf filter is provide with a plurality of disk-like filter leaves 10 the diameters of which become larger in order from the upper part to the lower part. Thus, the stock solution 3 that overflows from the lowest filter leaf is supplied in circulation to the uppermost filter leaf and the stock solution that overflows from the outer fringe 10a of each filter leaf is made to subsequently overflow to the upper part of the just lower filter leaf, thereby retaining the stock solution on each filter leaf to perform solid-liquid separation.
