According to one embodiment, when the towing vehicle is travelling with a trailer, a trailer brake pressure ( Ps ) on the trailer brakes is set on the basis of a trailer wheel brake efficiency ( ns</i>) which is determined on the basis of an excepted combination retardation ( Rkf ) and an actual combination retardation ( Rkv ).
