摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material, contained in an optical recording medium, which can be applied to a DVD-R disc system using a semiconductor laser having an oscillated wave length on the short wave length side, compared to a conventional system and especially shows outstanding light resistance and shelf stability in the optical recording medium using a conventional squalirium coloring matter as well as a recording method using the recording material. SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium with a recording layer formed on a substrate, the recording layer contains a squalirium compound and at least one kind each of an azo compound represented by formula (I) (wherein, A and B are independently a residue forming an aromatic ring which may have a substituent group or a heterocycle which may have a substituent group, together with a carbon atom with which the residue is bonded; and X is a substituent group having an active hydrogen group) and an azo metal chelate compound comprising a metal.
