PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for fitting a press plate which can fitt a flexible press plate surely and easily to a plate cylinder and adjust the elongation of the press plate to be 100μm or below and an apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: When the front of the flexible press plate 70 is fixed to a plate front clamping mechanism 12, the notch of the front of the press plate 70 is made to contact the positioning pin 14 of the mechanism 12 to be positioned and fixed. After the fixing, when the press plate 70 is wound onto the plate cylinder 11, a press plate pressing mechanism 17 for pressing the press plate 70 to the peripheral surface of the plate cylinder by a press means, a plate rear fixing mechanism 13 for fixing the rear of the press plate 70 to the plate cylinder 11, and a block copy sheet 27 which has a plate dislocation preventing function and is wound onto the plate cylinder to be fixed are provided. The elongation of the plate in the rotation direction of the plate cylinder when the press plate is fitted is adjusted to be 100μm or below. In the sheet 27, by being pressed to the back of the press plate, unevenness having a required shape which dents the back of the press plate is formed on the surface, the height of projections constituting the unevenness is 5-50μm, and the total per unit area of the largest cross-sectional areas of the surfaces in parallel to the sheet surface of the projections is 0.2-4% of the unit area.
