摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately control a quantity of sucked ink without complicating a driving system of a pump in a maintenance device for an ink jet printer wherein a negative pressure is applied to a space surrounded by a cap and an ink ejection face. SOLUTION: Firstly, a piston 43 is disposed on a dead point (position X) at a side of a base end (A). At that time, a tube connector 35c communicating with a tube connector 21c is opposed to an opening groove 55b communicating with the open air (a), and then the piston 43 is moved to a position Y (B). During the above operations, a negative pressure is not generated in a negative pressure chamber 47b. Subsequently, the tube connector 35c is opposed to an external wall section of a rubber member 55 (b), and then the piston 43 is moved to a position Z (C). Consequently, the negative pressure corresponding to the distance of the piston moved during the above operation is generated. When the tube connector 35a communicating with the cap is allowed to communicate with the tube connector 35c through the communication groove 55e (c), the generated negative pressure is suddenly applied to the space.
