: This invention is the adaptation of an oar or kayak paddle blade s o that the blade is self-feathering on the return stroke of a paddling or rowing action by means of a hinged blade surface. The invention is to have the structural shaft of the oar/paddle diverge into an upper and lower unit (split shaft). The main surface area of the blade is fastened to the lower portion of the framework by a hinge joining the lower side of the blade surface to the lowe r side of the framework. The blade surface is free to swing down to a horizontal position (perpendicular to the framework of the blade) on the return stroke. This fulfills the feathering requirement.
