Hydrocarbon synthesis involves contacting a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen with catalyst comprising at least one Group VIII metal on a silica-alumina support prepared by coprecipitation and calcination at 500-1200 degrees C for at least 6 hours, such that the silica-alumina has a surface area below 260 m<2>/g.
