PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium suitable for high density recording and having high electromagnetic transducing characteristics in a coating type magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium provided with a magnetic layer formed by dispersing ferromagnetic powder in a bonding agent, 0.9-7.5 pts.wt. aromatic compound having a carboxyl group and a hydroxyl group in the molecule thereof to 100 pts.wt. ferromagnetic powder is contained in the magnetic layer.
