PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for preparing a feeder placement data in an electronic component mounter capable of preparing the feeder placement data, based on proper results of an optimization process. SOLUTION: A device for preparing a feeder placement data prepares feeder placement data in a mounter, in which a double feeder capable of supplying two types of electronic components is placed in a component supply part. A non-restrictive feeder maximum usage, which is defined as an upper limit number which permits to use a non-restrictive tape feeder in which a combination of a type of electronic components has been fixedly preset is input, and an estimated cycle time obtained by calculating, based on the input non-restrictive feeder maximum usage, is displayed. Thus, restriction conditions are set elastically and a flexible optimization is made possible, the quality of results of the optimization calculation can be readily determined, and a proper optimization in conformity to the optimization object can be carried out.
