PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion vector detector and a motion vector detecting method that can efficiently detect a motion vector even from an image where color difference information is dominant. SOLUTION: An input section 2 outputs template block data and search window data where color difference pixel data Cb and color difference pixel data Cr alternately exist by n-sets to an arithmetic section 1 when a mode signal SM indicates a color difference signal mode. The arithmetic section 1 calculates 3 sets of evaluation values (Esa, Eso, Ese) with respect to a displacement vector relating to one template block on the basis of the data obtained from the input section 2. A comparison section 3 generates 3 motion vectors (Mva, Mve, Mvo) on the basis of the 3 evaluation values corresponding to the displacement vector discriminated effective while invalidating the 3 evaluation values corresponding to the displacement block when the mode signal indicates the color difference signal mode and a value of a horizontal vector of the displacement vector indicates an odd number. |
