<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely perform loading/unloading of a data storage tape. SOLUTION: A control mechanism is part of a tape drive 20 in which a removable tape cartridge 24 is loaded. The tape cartridge 24 stores the movable data storage tape 28 by using the control mechanism. The control mechanism contains a plurality of gears together with a cam. A leader assembly is operably connected to the control mechanism. At least part of the leader assembly is movable in connection with loading or unloading of the data storage tape 28 relative to the leader assembly. A leader pin is joined to an end of the data storage tape 28. When the loading operation is performed, part of the leader assembly is moved generally linearly into the tape cartridge 24, then the control mechanism causes such portions to pivot in order to engage the leader pin and remove it from its seat. When the unloading operation is performed, the part of the leader assembly is moved in substantially opposite directions from the loading operation.</p> |
