PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form precisely and easily slits for separating the adjoining terminals of a flat cable in which terminals are installed on the way in longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: In the length adjusting process of a flat cable, with the bending line 16 of the flat cable 10 as a border, slits 18s are formed over the whole range of the slip formation range on the side 18 where the terminals are not installed, and on the terminal installation side 17, slits 17S1 are formed over the range from the bending line 16 up to the point immediately before the position where the installation blade is pierced. These short slits 17S1 make smooth (secure) connection with the slits 18s on the side 18 where the terminals are not installed, when finally the slits are made in the whole range on the terminal installation side 17. After installation of the terminals, the remaining slits 17S2 are formed on the terminal installation side 17. By these slits 17S1, 17S2, 18s, the adjoining terminals are separated as independent, so they can be connected smoothly even if the installation pitch of the cavity is changed.
