PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which suppresses degradation of picture quality caused by an object effect in an area gradation display system performing gradation display by dividing a pixel into a plurality of sub-pixels. SOLUTION: The display device according to the present invention is provided with pixels (3) having a plurality of sub-pixels (7), and a control part (5) for controlling so that each of the plurality of the sub-pixels (7) are displayed with gradations at a plurality of levels. The control part (5) controls so that when a 1st sub-pixel among a plurality of the sub-pixels (7) is displayed at one of the lowest level gradation and the highest level gradation among a plurality of the levels, a 2nd sub-pixel (7) is not displayed at the other of the gradations showing the lowest level and the highest level. Thus, the display device according to this invention can suppress the degradation of picture quality due to the shape effect.
