PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for stroke extraction and a storage medium in which a stroke extraction program is stored, which have a high direction component resolving power for strokes and flexibly cope with the variance of line width and stably extract strokes, even in blurred parts. SOLUTION: The method for stroke extraction is provided with a character string image storage part 11, which takes an optically scanned character string image as the input and stores it, a stroke estimation data generating part 12, which extracts data for stroke estimation from the character string image, a composite normal distribution estimating part 13 which generates composite normal distribution expression features from data for stroke estimation, and a stroke extraction part 14 which outputs stroke information from composite normal distribution expression features, and black pixels of the character string image are expressed as two-dimensional coordinate data, and strokes are made to correspond to normal distributions, and the input picture is expressed as the superposition of two-dimensional normal distributions, and superposition of several normal distributions is finally extracted as a stroke.
