PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data communication system where an operator can easily recognize a state of a communication controller when no display device is connected to the communication controller or the display device cannot be seen well. SOLUTION: On the occurrence of a radio fault between a central management unit 103 and the communication controller 101 or 102 and disabled communication is detected (S27), the communication controller 101 or 102 transmits a character string denoting a 'communication NG reason code xx' to a copying machine display section 95 of copying machines 91, 92 connected to the communication controller (S28). When the radio fault can be restored to a communication enable state after that (S31), a standby transition sequence (S32) and a position registration sequence (S34) are sequentially conducted, and the communication controllers 101, 102 respectively transmit character strings 'during restoration' and 'communication OK' respectively corresponding to the processing above to the copying machine display section 95 (S33, S35).
