The applicator of e.g. expanded polyethylene to mattress springs comprises a tube (2) matching the polyethylene insert (1) and blanked off at one end (3), to facilitate insertion between the springs. Also claimed is a process using the applicator. CLAIMED PROCESS - The process employs a manual or mechanical locator to withdraw the polyethylene insert (1) from the tube which has two terminal slits (5) for this purpose. EMBODIMENT - The tube (1) is removed to leave the insert in position.
