PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk which eliminates a redundant region of a tracking pit and can avoid lowering of its recording capacity, while maintaining performance of a tracking servo. SOLUTION: A synchronous pit Psync disposed at a synchronous area and serving as a synchronization reference at reproduction, a guard pit Pg disposed at a boundary part of the synchronous area and a data area, and two or more data pits Pdat disposed in the data area at the fixed pit period to record digital data and serving as a tracking reference at reproduction are formed in an optical disk in which digital data are recorded. An average ratio of the portion occupied by two or more data pits Pdat is fixed. Then, at the reproduction operation, a beam spot BS traces on a center line of two adjacent tracks, a tracking error is detected based on two data pits Pdat on these two tracks, and the tracking servo is carried out. Therefore, recording capacity of the optical disk can be increased, without separately preparing a tracking pit. |
