METHOD AND DEVICE FOR RECORDING AND REPRODUCING MOVING PICTURE DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To receive moving picture encoding data whose insertion frequency of an in-frame encoding picture (I-VOP) required for decoding a moving picture is less and to efficiently record an arbitrary scene in the memory of small capacity. SOLUTION: While a reception bit stream constituted of a moving picture encoding data string is decoded and a reproduced picture is displayed, a decoding picture which is arbitrarily selected is preserved as a virtual in-frame encoding picture (virtual-IVOP). A partial bit stream generating the reproduced picture for a specified period, which follows the decoding picture treated as virtual- IVOP, is recorded as recording data. Recording data are decoded with virtual I-VOP as an initial picture.
