PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an MR element from being destructed due to the temperature rise in a magnetic recording/reproducing device provided with a magnetic head using the MR element. SOLUTION: When a control part 13 receives a control signal for instructing the start of the reproducing operation from an operation input part 14, a drum motor 34 is driven to rotate a rotary drum 31, then, the supply of a sense current to the magnetic head 33 for reproduction furnished with the MR element is started by a sense current supply part 11. Also, when a control signal for instructing the stop of the reproducing operation is received from the operation input part 14, the supply of the sense current by the sense current supply part 11 is stopped, and the driving of the drum motor 34 is stopped to stop the rotary drum 31.
